Regional Health Disparities Symposium

Friday, April 14, 2023 (8:30 AM - 3:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Please join us for our first Regional Health Disparities Symposium on April 14th at the Morehead Conference Center from 8:30AM-3PM! The symposium will feature a keynote speaker, two panel discussions, a presentation on recovery, and an interactive group activity. There will be a diverse lineup of speakers and panelists who will be discussing myriad subjects related to Northeast Kentucky’s hidden health disparities. Below is a description of keynote speaker Dr. Michael Meit’s presentation: “While rural populations comprise about 20% of the United States population, they experience significantly more health disparities as compared to non-rural residents, including lower educational attainment, lower socio-economic status, and more limited access to health care services. This session will highlight rural health disparities and how they vary by region, describe Kentucky’s health inequities, present measures of rural prosperity that can help us to understand factors of both risk and resilience of our rural communities, and identify rural strengths and assets than can be leveraged to improve community health.”
