Description
Get ready for an engaging afternoon of community connection at the June Membership Luncheon, proudly presented by City of Morehead. We are honored to welcome this month’s guest speaker, Dr. Brian Storz, who will discuss the innovative Greensinks Project.
This luncheon offers a fantastic opportunity to network with fellow members, enjoy a great meal, and stay informed about important developments impacting our community.
The Greensinks Project, a term coined by Dr. Storz, focuses on the construction of dry bio retention ponds as a sustainable, nature based alternative to traditional creek dredging. These ponds are designed to temporarily capture stormwater during heavy rains, allowing water to slowly absorb into the ground or be redirected without overwhelming urban drainage systems.
The collaboration between City of Morehead, Kentucky Division of Water, Gateway Area Development District, and Federal Emergency Management Agency continues to move the project forward, with hopes that it will provide lasting flood relief for the community and serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.
